Helping out at school is a great way to get involved in your child's education and to get to know the school staff and other parents.
Research shows that children benefit when their parents are actively involved in their education and school life.
Keep an eye on the school newsletter for opportunities to help out at school and ask your child's teacher if you are interested in helping in the classroom. You will be required to complete a working with children check beforehand.
Here are some ways you can help:
- listen to children read in the classroom
- volunteer on sports days
- help to supervise excursions
- get involved in fundraising activities
- join a school committee.
AT EPPING HEIGHTS
At Epping Heights we value the support we get from parents and the community. You will find many opportunities to make a positive contribution to your child's school and education through involvment in the school.
Apart from the suggestions above there are the following specific opportunities:
- Fundamental Movement Skills Program - parents of Kindergarten children are needed to help with this fun activity which takes place on Fridays. Children rotate through a number of activities designed to develop skills children will need to take part in sports and games.
- Reading, Writing and Maths Groups - teachers appreciate parent support in classroom activities. Parents may be asked to supervise a small group of children.
- Canteen - the canteen is open on Tuesdays and on Fridays for morning tea. Although there is a paid Canteen Manager, volunteers are always needed to ensure the smooth operation of the canteen.
- Community Relations Committee - this valuable school committee comprises parents who volunteer to run a number of 'public relations' functions. These include assisting with: the Kindergarten Orientation Program, Open Day and associated morning teas, floral arrangments and morning tea for the Anzac Day Service, Education Week Open Day morning tea, Book Week Morning Tea for pre-schoolers and parents.
- P&C Fundraising Committee - this very hard working committee coordinates school fundraising activities and is always seeking new members and fresh ideas. The school relies on funds raised to support school programs and resources.
- School Self-Evaluation Committee - this important committee made up of teachers, parents and the principal develops surveys, analyses school data, sets targets for the school and compiles the Annual School Report.
